Outdoor Afro Homeplace
The network made Sonoma Mountain its official home in 2022. Outdoor Afro Homeplace is a 1,119-acre ranch nestled between the towns of Petaluma and Sonoma and offers headquarter views of San Francisco, Oakland, Mt. St. Helena, Mt. Diablo, Mt. Tamalpais, and valleys below. A former cattle ranch, Homeplace provides Outdoor Afro staff, board members, volunteer leaders, supporters, and community members a modern homestead to relish and conserve West Coast land, water, and wildlife. The ranch features contemporary greenhouses, a main barn, a horse barn, a tool shed, two wells, and two lakes.Â
Homeplace is Outdoor Afro’s opportunity to host recreational events in a safe and supportive environment. Events span from birding, hiking, camping, gardening, nature art journaling, and other educational- and conservation-based workshops. Ultimately, Homeplace is designed to help generations fall in love with our natural world, and discover ways to help protect and embrace a welcoming refuge away from every life. Homeplace also serves as a site for younger generations to develop a lifelong relationship with nature and become future champions for people and the outdoors over time.
