Activities in Nature

Outdoor Afro’s programs are designed to reconnect Black people and Black communities to nature year-round. These original programs amplify Black joy and healing in the outdoors. With our volunteer leaders, local participants, and dedicated supporters, our national programming reinforces our mission to celebrate and inspire Black connections and leadership in nature.

Annual Activations:

Outdoor Afro Leadership Training equips more than 100 volunteer leaders with the tools needed to guide local communities in nature safely and sustainably.

Making Waves is a national program ensuring every child and caregiver in Outdoor Afro’s sphere of influence learns to swim.

Black History Month educates about nature influencers and national events of our past and present that inspire our community work.

Juneteenth serves as a commemoration day for Outdoor Afro that encourages communities across the United States to go outside for 2.5 hours to reflect on the 2.5 years that freedom delayed for enslaved people of Galveston, Texas.

Glamp Out celebrates with more than 250 guests all that our organization has achieved yearlong because of your support.
